I hear it's sort of like a '59 bridge but with .5k more ohms, and possibly (not sure if Fender kept it) mismatched coils for a slightly rebellious sound. those '59s are so damn sweet in mahogany guitars. Would I fit them to any of my Les Pauls? oh, and to hell with the duncan distortion. This pickup – which as the name suggests uses an Alnico II magnet – produces a warm, smooth sweet tone and is particularly well suited for bright guitars.
I had a nice set of 57' classics in that same guitar that just singed and replaced those with the Pearly Gates. Gibson even used them on their Pearly Gates replica, but will adding a set to your Les Paul clone make you sound like a million dollars? You could also fine tune your guitar via the adjustable pole pieces on the pickups themselves, which can result in a more even response across your different string thicknesses, although saying that, every time I have tweaked pickup pole pieces, I have found the differences very subjective.
