Small uphill grade from Niles to Canfield at Western Reserve Road. very well kept and nice ride. This area is a Natural Open Space with a Hiking/Mt Biking trail system. Turn right onto US 224 and go 1 mile; then turn left onto OH 46, which becomes S. Broad St. A 317-acre MetroParks Farm lies in close proximity to the trail and has a connecting path and parking. The Vestal Trail is 0.5-mile connection through town of McCandless that joins the Oakridge neighborhood to the playing fields at its eastern end. Nice trail that we will ride again. Great asphalt paved trail is just under 11 miles in length. Trail goes through open areas and shaded areas. Farther along, you’ll travel alongside Sawmill Creek Preserve, a 154-acre forested area with trees and shrubs that prevents sediments from entering Sawmill Creek. On the east side of the trail, the Canfield Fairgrounds holds one of Ohio’s largest fairs every year. We saw beautiful wildlife and the vibe there was quite serene! We went through two counties, under I-80, over Mahoning Avenue (cool bridge) and under the Ohio turnpike, rode passed Canfield fairgrounds. The Middle Branch Trail follows the Middle Branch of Nimishillen Creek north-south through Stark County parks, with a couple of loops in between. Trail 1562 is open to 4 wheel ATV's. The only nice rest area is at the bike shop at Kirk Road. This 400-acre working farm sprawls along both sides of the trail and presents educational programs, tours, and agricultural displays seasonally. Eateries nearby the trail. It has some grade and hills at the road crossings and also there are many flat sections. The climb may be steep but the views are well worth the work. Otherwise it’s a nice trail. Unseasonal warm and sunny day in March, temps near 60. The Western Reserve Greenway travels 43 miles through a scenic, mostly rural area, cutting a north–south course from Ashtabula to Warren in northeastern Ohio. - 30mi roundtrip. Uphill ride from mile 0 at the county line. Nice trail, but note that it is closed at mile 5 (from the north). Seamless connection at the Trumbull and Mahoning County lines. The Portage Hike and Bike Trail stretches nearly 10 miles between Kent and Ravenna, about 40 miles southeast of Cleveland and the southern shores of Lake Erie. Unsafe, in my opinion.
Just one minor caution. There are many up hill sections and some down hill sections There are many rocks and roots on the trail making many jumps on the trail, also on the trail there are some down trees along.
Does any one know when the trail will be extended from those 2 points?

Hoover Park Connector Trail sits between Applegrove Street to the north and Maple Street to the south in the heart of North Canton, Ohio. A very nice trail brochure is available at that wonderful Kirk Road Trailhead, which supplies the trail's railroad history which, unfortunately, is not presented trailside. This is a great trail which runs N/S from Canfield to Niles. The 61.5-mile Montour Trail follows most of the former Montour Railroad’s main line west and south of Pittsburgh.
We began at the farm trailhead and traveled 12 miles before returning. Lots of people were there too.
The Rails to Trails greenway has been the best by far for Team Dash to get in some miles. The 4.5-mile Mahoning Valley Trail snakes its way south from the Deer Creek Reservoir to the City of Alliance. Insect repellent, sunscreen, and sunglasses recommended. We have done this trail many times over the years. Bikers must pack out all trash, respect trail boundaries, and yield to hikers.
Housed in a historical 1938 Works Progress Administration–built sandstone structure at the trailhead is a bicycle rental and repair shop. Very well maintained throughout. There is no visibility over hilltops, and a car speeding over one is too likely to knock down a cyclist on the other side. Plenty of chipmunks use this trail as well! I rode this trail on June 24, 2017. I rode the entire trail from the fairgrounds to the end and back.
