Troy thought she said "boobie," which is American slang for "breast."
The episode’s actual story of Abed getting everyone to join glee club in order to celebrate the holiday is forced. It’s just on pause. Community Soundtrack- Regional Holiday Music (S3E10) - YouTube
Somehow I doubt Glee will respond in kind in their Christmas episode airing tonight. I watched the first season until the midseason finale (Sectionals?
(If anything, he likes liking things even more than Abed does; he just has a harder time admitting it.)
It's not Shakespeare, but it's fun and occasionally clever, it makes me laugh, and the music is usually pretty darned good. And it couldn't have made for a better episode. Download MF.
(Though they ignored a chance to have Mr. Rad rap.).
Thanks for all the great feedback, everyone. We will see the remaining 12 episodes of this season. Just some kind of nod that Shirley’s finding ways to balance her two families, you know? So be disappointed but not despondent.
Take that, West Side Story. What's to hate? •So one of the main morals of the Baby Boomer song is that that Santa did a ton of drugs. After last year the entire cast would know his feelings on the subject well and do something to cheer him up, not to mention that there are certainly much more holiday-centric things to do instead of glee club. Share Tweet Submit Pin. And enjoy this clip from that first Christmas episode, featuring the magic of Farmer Ted as a bully with a mustache, shirtless fly dancers, the Forest Whitaker eye and the most badass song Florence and the Machine will ever record: Spillage Village’s Folksy ‘Spilligion’ Offers Hope For A Hopeless World, Action Bronson’s ‘Only For Dolphins’ Grants A Long-Awaited, Chef’s Kiss Moment To His Catalog, Bartees Strange Is 2020’s Breakout Indie Star, Our Not-Guaranteed-To-Be-Accurate Predictions For The Very Weird 2020 Emmys, Netflix’s ‘The Devil All The Time’ Is A Spellbinding, Brilliantly Cast Hillbilly Gothic, The Ending Of ‘The Usual Suspects’ Still Wows, 25 Years Later, Voter Registration Deadlines Are A Week Away In 19 States, Here’s How To Register Now, Photographer Julian Ali Shares The Vision Behind His #BlackKings Photo Series, Sexologist Shan Boodram On Intimacy And Pleasure In The COVID Era. •I don’t talk about this too much here, because generally speaking Community adheres to a house style. Andre has apparently become the world’s greatest dad, but still. friedlvongrimm.
Watching it was, well, more powerful than Bliss itself.
After a while, it’s no fun to keep busting on the big bad bully who doesn’t even know you exist, especially when the bully is now being made fun of almost everyone else, anyway. And then things wrap up happily, with the gang passing up on their individual holiday plans to cheer up Abed and watch the terrible 1981 “Inspector Spacetime” holiday special. “Baby Boomer Santa” by Troy, Abed and, eventually, Pierce: Not only did it give the boys a chance to work through a wide range of musical styles as they ranged from the ’40s through the ’80s (Troy as Bob Dylan was my favorite, followed closely by them popping their collars to do the “Dancing in the Dark” dance), but it hilariously played on Pierce’s individual obsession with relevance and the larger issue of Boomer narcissism. (Lyrics by the writing staff, music by the show’s composer, Ludwig Göransson.) And still manage to be funny? There were no bad songs all night, my personal favorite being Troy and Abed’s rap, which I think had many of the episode’s best lines, and Annie’s sexy Santa song, because it both worked as a perfect parody of that terrible subgenre of music and also had Alison Brie in a sexy Santa getup. •You guys all see him, too, right.” – I like the reference to Pierce hallucinating Andy Dick in previous episode.
Stray observations: But here’s what “Regional Holiday Music” reminded me: Liking things is vital. The latest review should be up sometime later today. ; Relatedly, the Study Group coming to Troy and Abed's apartment at the end of the episode to celebrate Christmas and watch the Inspector Spacetime Holiday Special with Abed.
With the exception of Annie’s solo performance, which got progressively more disturbing, the lyrics and performances add up to what, frankly, is one of the funniest musicals ever made. That probably doesn't speak well for my maturity, does it?KAM.
American Dad Season 15 Episode 1 Review: Santa, Schmanta, Top 100 Christmas TV episodes ever: 20 - 1, Community season 2 episode 11 review: Abed’s Uncontrollable Christmas, Community season 3 episode 10 review: Regional Holiday Music. And, this was an awesome episode! And it has been making me laugh harder than anything else this entire season. After that, Britta gets converted without song in an homage to the end of “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” with her approaching what she assumes is an unconverted Jeff, only for him to sing in her face and Britta to respond with a scream, which leads us to….

We’ll be covering the show again whenever it happens to return… which hopefully won’t be too long. I only just started watching this a few days ago but Ron Swanson has already become my new comedy god. Perhaps not quite a Christmas miracle, but close enough. “Teach Me How To Understand Christmas” by Annie: This was hilarious, and incredibly disturbing, as Annie’s youthful girl-next-door sexuality was pushed to its extreme limit with a number that has her dressed as a slutty Santa’s helper but exaggerating the Betty Boop/Marilyn Monroe mannerisms until she just sounds like a 5-year-old.
HitFix's Alan Sepinwall reviews "Regional Holiday Music," the December 8 episode of NBC's "Community," in which the show heads into hiatus with a hilarious, song-filled Christmas 'Glee' parody. The one-sided rivalry between “Community” and “Glee” has been going on for a few years now, and “Regional Holiday Music” was the logical, clever, funny endpoint to it. It wasn’t planned this way, but there’s a definite sense of “Today, I take care of all Family business” to this one closing out the show’s “Glee” hatred. As with its best theme-episodes, the show bridged the gap between high-concept parody and character-based comedy. So Annie was going to the movies with one grandmother, and her other grandmother was dead, but Troy thought she was going to the movies with only one of her boobies.I have to say, I thought explaining it would ruin the joke, but it seems even funnier to me now. I actually think it would have been okay if, say, she had brought the two older boys with her to Troy, Abed and Annie’s apartment and sent them immediately to play in the blanket fort.
•”What the hell are regionals? How that isn’t good enough for NBC defies belief.
)I'm relatively new to Community, having just started watching it this past summer. And in the meantime, I’m going to figure out as many excuses as I can to talk about this show and its genius and why NBC needs to get it the hell back on the air as soon as possible.
(I hate that NBC has pulled it until Spring.)Kat. Exactly. I hope it will be renewed!
* Other “Glee” in-jokes included the sudden appearance of a piano player who looked an awful lot like the bearded guy (Brad?)
All of that made this episode even more funny to me.
And thank you youtube for the Kiss for a Rose scene.
NBC has enough struggling sitcoms that it seems conceivable that Community will end up back on the air during the spring season… but then it might not. the show Glee, has been a part of the show’s identity since the first season.
I loved the rap and the genre song that sucked in Pierce.I must admit that, like Gus, Annie's song went a little far for me and that I wish they had let Britta shine instead of making her the butt of the joke again. But, the final scene when the rest of the group were singing to Abed actually brought a tear to my eye. Oh finally, some hope ! My mother loved movie musicals and I must have seen every one ever made while I was growing up, though, so I'm probably warped.
178 notes. (*) And also the last new episode to air before the show goes on an indefinite hiatus. (also, this might help me convince one of these friends I mentioned to finally start watching this show), Mark, I also hate Glee with an intense passion. For those of us who have become incredibly fond of Community’s particular brand of warmly insulting comedy, that melancholy accurately reflects the resulting mixed feelings that the possible shelving of the show causes. Directed by Tristram Shapeero. Funny, creepy, and Jeff’s weakness for Annie no doubt helps him succumb.
Never have the tuneless ramblings of a madman been so enticing.
Don’t remember it?
Whatever the outcome of the present situation, Community’s creators should be incredibly proud of what appears to be a genuine chemistry and camaraderie between their cast. But that doesn’t matter, because even those strains are in fact a sort of parody of Glee, not to mention part of the old musical formula. Great TV for nerds is hard to come by, and in Community we’ve seen exactly what it should be like. And NBC has been very cagey about the back half of the season—yes, we’ve been assured that there will be one, but how it’ll happen remains undecided.
December 15, 2015 • Cal Behrendt. who randomly turns up to accompany New Directions, the study room being furnished like the “Glee” music room, Jeff noting that not liking glee club doesn’t make them bullies (reference to various ill-advised Ryan Murphy retorts to musicians who didn’t want their music on the show) and I’m sure many more that y’all and the likes of Todd VanDerWerff, Ryan McGee and Myles McNutt can point out.
I loved this one, probably one of my favorites.
), and I was liking it (although I was never a huge fan).
