belvoir st theatre events

I love the Theatre. Otherwise hold on to your tickets and we will be in touch about a new date and time. Trying to make sense of these realities has become an everyday fixation in many of our lives, and David Greig’s The Events is a timely and sensitive expression of those concerns. Teachers learn from industry professionals and are provided with comprehensive teaching outlines and practical activities to take back to the classroom. Sunday 22 May 5pm – Wycliffe Singers & Pitt St Singers, Tuesday 24 May 6:30pm – Woollahra Sings Hegh’s Woolf sits deep in thought, trying to pin down an idea at the edge of her consciousness, when a man requests that she move from the river’s banks on the grounds of ‘Oxbridge’. She is not the master of her destiny. The actor tells the story well, and we learn all there is to know about her character and the circumstances, even if we are not engaged on a more emotive level. The Events is an unsettling, sadly topical and profoundly moving theatrical experience. Thursday 26 May 8pm – The Cleftomaniacs Licciardello and Wright may have anticipated this question, though they do not provide an answer to it. The calculated formlessness of Woolf’s essay is its great triumph, a quality that Licciardello’s direction carefully evokes in the play’s opening scenes. The young man is something else: the voice of the alienated, an enemy within, a lost generation. The intimate venue. The fun is in getting there. Sunday 29 May 5pm – The Overcommitments, Tuesday 31 May 6:30pm – Timbre Flaws Why Aren't You Writing for Weekend Notes? “I didn’t think I’d ever be so He plays many roles, but in an era of Port Arthur and Martin Place they all ask the same big question: How do we live together knowing it can all come apart in a moment? Still studying? Saturday 4 June 8pm – Voices from the Vacant Lot Review: As We Forgive (Griffin Theatre Company / Tasmania Performs), Review: Superheroes (Griffin Theatre Company), Review: Wonnangatta (Sydney Theatre Company), Review: Distorted (Fixed Foot Productions). Musical Director Luke Byrne This can apply to a small number of tickets in response to demand for a specific performance date or time. If Hegh plays Woolf’s mind, Prince plays her physicality. Belvoir runs a series of professional learning workshops for teachers throughout the year in both metropolitan Sydney and regional NSW. Perfick Garden. The play’s structure lends itself to intrigue and tension, which director Clare Watson manufactures well, but its restrained emotional dimension prevents the show from creating the same resonances that we have come to expect when dealing with its themes. It’s in the mathematics of her storytelling. We spend a lot of time searching for events in Melton Mowbray and the surrounding villages and receive many contributions from the community and event organisers. But everyone who bought a ticket to this play isn’t holding their breath for the ending. Theatre review Friday 20 May 8pm – Sydney Gay & Lesbian Choir In the constant interruptions and incursions on her time and space, she loses the “little fish” of an idea that she was trying to reel in. Why do we need to rehash the social critique of a woman living a century ago, when our world has since changed so dramatically? Belvoir’s A Room of One’s Own arrives at its crucial moment – that “a woman must have money and a room of her own if she is to write fiction,” slowly, like it was building up to it. In The Events, we are urged, in times of trouble, to humanise individuals when all our instincts want is for perpetrators of violence to become demonised. Concession rates are available for student teachers. This is true; we know this is true. We know what the point is. Johnny Carr plays a variety of roles opposite the leading lady, engrossing but not always distinct (probably a comment on Claire’s disillusionment with the world), with an energetic approach that we rely on for a propulsive sense of momentum. But everyone who bought a ticket to this play isn’t holding their breath for the ending.
