From the harbour at Elgol climb up onto the headland and walk south across the peat and heather (wear waterproof footwear!) The optional alternate return is boggy. This fine path soon emerges at Broadford's main pier. Picturesque views of West Limerick. When the track forks take the right hand branch which follows the shore. The story was told that an evil spirit dwelt in the loch, and this spirit poisoned the waters so that anyone bathing in the loch or drinking the water would die. In 1840 a new church was built in Broadford, and Cill Chriosd was abandoned.
When the track reaches a gate leave it and take the grassy shoreline path to the right. The driest way back is to retrace your steps, but if you don't mind a bit of boggyness you can continue on the path which now climbs up to the flat grassy area above the low cliffs.
