We rode the full length St. J to West Danville June 20,2015. The trail offers a number of activity options and is accessible year-round. Interestingly, it's downhill from Hyde Park to Cambridge Jct. The last 2 developed miles (15 miles west of St Johnsbury), follows along the shore of St. Joe, sometimes on the water, sometimes right behind summer cottages.
Lamoille Valley Rail Trail. The Lamoille Valley Rail Trail is a historic treasure extending across some of Northern Vermont’s most beautiful landscapes. Surface is fine stone (2-3 miles left to finish). It was pretty flat and a bit boring as there was hardly any railroad remnants to see except for the converted Cambridge Junction station. Once at the playground, it's just a short ride over the former railroad bridge to the end of the trail. We rode 17 miles from the St Johnsbury trailhead to the end of construction in West Danville. Trail in great shape - compare to earlier photo where trail was not developed yet. Lamoille Valley Rail Trail Parking is a park in Vermont. The LVRT is coming in from the right and is little more than weeds and ballast right now...but not for long! The Trailhead offers great access to the LVRT along with the many other area attractions. Ride on the weekends only until the construction is done. We had a lovely ride on the Lamoille Valley Rail Trail, enjoying the classic Vermont scenery (farms, woods, wildflowers). This mapping system is great and includes a huge amount of the now abandoned railroads ROWs.
