The Isle is a first and third person open-world sandbox which will pit human teams and playable dinosaurs against one another on one of several intense islands in a struggle to survive. To recode the entire game from scratch on a new engine is not a small task and considering how the map and mechanics look on dev streams, they have definitely worked on this longer than since November.
