They discover signs of a lost civilization and an artifact … The plot has these three astronauts landing on Venus to find two others who apparently crashed there with their robot. The Sirius lands in Venus and Commander Brendan Lockhart (Vladimir Yemelyanov), Andre Ferneau (Robert Chantal) and Hans Walter (Georgi Zhzhyonov) explore the planet and are attacked by prehistoric animals. Also, the shots of Venus are excellent. In 1998, six months after the collision of a meteor and subsequent explosion of a rocket sent to Venus, the team composed by the astronauts Kern and Sherman with the robot John is launched to explore Venus.
Bogdanovich wrote the narration and provided the voice; it was the one credit he took on the film. Roger Corman re-edits a Soviet science fiction movie with added Basil Rathbone and bad dubbing.
In the year 2020, cosmonaut Marcia (Faith Domergue) orbits the planet Venus while five astronauts and a robot journey on the surface. They discover signs of a lost civilization and an artifact indicating that the Venusians had looked human. In 2020, after the colonization of the moon, the spaceships Vega, Sirius and Capella are launched from Lunar Station 7 to explore Venus under the command of Professor Hartman (Basil Rathbone), but an asteroid collides and explodes Capella. I had them traipsing around Leo Carillo Beach for a while shooting inserts that might relate to Venus". The spaceship scenes and inserted American scenes are tedious, but I was struck by the ingenuity, heroism and selflessness of the cosmonauts on Venus' surface. Come to think of it, the other special effects in the movie are really good too. The down side of the film is that it was made by American International Pictures and was filmed in that horrid Pathecolor which gives it that washed out red look. Corman added Faith Domergue and Basil Rathbone and some poorly dubbed English, but, thankfully, left the plot, soundtrack, visuals and most of the dialog intact. The problem is that it starts slow and after the volcano scene it ends slowly. The Sirius lands in Venus and Commander Brendan Lockhart, Andre Ferneau and Hans Walter explore the planet and are attacked by prehistoric animals.

Taglines I am a huge fan of B-movies, so anything I write a review for will be graded on a curve. It's a fun and pulpy romp to Venus, loaded with action, bizarre dialog and some even more strange humor. Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet (18) IMDb 3.8 1h 13min 2017 13+ In the year 2020, cosmonaut Marcia (Faith Domergue) orbits the planet Venus while five astronauts and a robot journey on the surface. it's robot is way advanced for that time period and even pre-dates that Val Kilmer sci fi film about the Red Planet. They use a vehicle to seek Kern and Sherman while collecting samples from the planet. I dressed them up in rubber suits, bottoms only and put shells over their breasts. They use a vehicle to seek Kern and Sherman while collecting samples from the planet. It was the last film made by the Filmgroup company.
It was called the horror gift set so I don't know why there were two science fiction movies in the set.
He decided one of the astronauts, "the best looking one", should narrate the film. Bogdanovich hired Mamie Van Doren and several other blondes to play Venusians "because I thought everyone should be blonde on Venus. The legendary Roger Corman had, in the mid-1960s, purchased the American rights to a trio of Russian science-fiction epics: "Planet of Storms", "The Sky Beckons", and "A Dream Comes True". Their version of Venus is sort of like walking near and around the island of Hawaii with it's exotic plants and volcanoes. The movie was known as Gill Men at one stage. This version has neatly edited in scenes featuring American stars to replace two of the Russians and dubbed the voices of the remaining Russian actors - this is a mixed blessing, since the dialogue is often contorted so as to match their lip movements, making for some banal conversations on the way to Venus. Of the production, Bogdanovich has stated: Bogdanovich said he had to paint out the red star on the spaceship, "in every frame. The models, sets, vehicles, weapons, robots, costumes, and other tech items are equal to or better than the best of its Western contemporaries in terms of imagination and realism. At the end the explorers discover signs of a lost civilization and a sculpture indicating that the Venusians had looked human.
There are a couple of monsters here and there too to see.
The other version (Planet of the Prehistoric Women) is absolutely laughable, with platinum blonde beach combing aliens (who were all finalists in the Miss Venus competition of 1962) wearing seashell bras wandering around. Reviews: Voyage to the Prehistoric Planet. This is the better of two English language adaptations of Planeta Burg, a Soviet movie speculating what cosmonauts might discover on a voyage to Venus. A lot of the comments about this movie are really ignorant.
Roger Corman bought the rights to the Russian film 'Planeta Bur' (1962), shot some extra footage featuring Faith Domergue and Basil Rathbone (who at the same time, on the same set, in the same costume, shot his scenes for 'Queen of Blood' (1966) another Corman cut'n'paste (in that case of 'Nebo Zovyot' (1959) and 'Mechte Navstrechu' (1963))). Once you get used to that, there are some interesting bits, including a great robot, a nifty flying car and an ending that retains some of the poetry of the original space epic. Professor Hartman (Basil Rathbone) is also on hand to observe the exploration from a distance. Don't get me wrong, its really hokey, but there are qualities to the film that are kind of impressive. There is a robot called, oddly enough, John the Robot, that appears to be a proto-type for Robbie the Robot (see "Forbidden Planet). Do the anthropomorphic Venusians still exist? in a volcanic eruption. Voyage to Prehistoric Planet Definitely Enjoyable, A low-budget space opera being actually a rip-off from a Russian flm , adding wasted appearances by Basil Rathbone and Faith Domergue, Penny-wise plundering of Russian film 'Planeta Bur', Imaginative sets and creatures, but no characterisation at all, 'Planeta Bur'. Starlet Domergue (a former Howard Hughes squeeze) has more lines but a somewhat unflattering hair style, possibly to match unused footage of the female cosmonaut (Kyunna Ignatova) in the original. That's it. They stuck by each other through thick and thin.
Wells's THE FIRST MEN IN THE MOON postulated the existence of a highly-organized society of intelligent, air-breathing creatures living inside the Moon, and that film was made in the mid-1960s. William Lockhart, Ralph Phillips as Astronaut Howard Sherman. This movie was pretty good overall and I was surprised to learn that it was originally a Russian movie that was changed in some scenes and deleting or adding actors. The script was mostly well written and the actors all did a good job in their roles. Astronauts landing on Venus kill a creature that resembles a pterosaur and is worshiped by the local women. His then-wife Polly Platt worked on the film as a production designer. Movies. It should be remembered that in the 1950s and 60s, getting hold of a 'foreign' film (much less one sub-titled or dubbed) was much more difficult than it became with the advent of home-video and films like 'Voyage to a Prehistoric Planet', for all its weaknesses, may have been to only way for American audiences to see some of the work being done behind the Iron Curtain. Wasn't all that bad. At one point, an astronaut even opens his helmet briefly with no ill effects! But what of the strange singing sound they often have heard during their exploration? With Mamie Van Doren, Mary Marr, Paige Lee, Gennadi Vernov. The stuff about that gal Marsha was just really dumb. The biggest difference between the two is that John the Robot doesn't have any moving parts. It is interesting during this phase, but after they find them the movie gets really bad again as I am guessing they were just trying to pad out the rest of the film. It's a pity that the real Venus turned out to be so hostile to life as we know it, because I would've loved to have visited this wonderful alien world of the imagination. The fact that Venus has a metal-crunching dense atmosphere and very toxic gases doesn't seem to matter, as once there the place isn't all that horrible. Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women (1968) In 1998, six months after the collision of a meteor and subsequent explosion of a rocket sent to Venus, the team composed by the astronauts Kern and Sherman with the robot John is launched to explore Venus. The women try to kill the astronauts by means of their superhuman powers, but fail. (Oh, that was bad.) The costumes are cool and the robot is absolutely AMAZING. The physics and science behind the film are astoundingly bad, but the film is also rather kitschy and charming in a silly and old fashioned way, so it might be worth a quick look.
Be the first to contribute!
The production rationale is somewhat similar to 'Godzilla, King of the Monsters' (1954), which incorporated new American footage (starring Raymond Burr) in an attempt to make a 'foreign' film more palatable to US audiences. Meanwhile John helps the two cosmonauts to survive in the hostile land. B-grade horror/exploitation movie legend Roger Corman ('A Bucket Of Blood', 'The Masque Of The Red Death', 'The Wild Angels') and writer/director Curtis Harrington (of highly thought of cult movies 'Night Tide' and 'Games') take an obscure low budget Soviet science fiction movie, re-edit it, badly dub it, and add extra footage of faded star Basil "Sherlock Holmes" Rathbone and 'This Island Earth's Faith Domergue, and come up with... well, I don't know what you call it! The explorers are attacked by prehistoric beasts, and then lose their robot (and nearly their lives!)
Voyage to the Planet of Prehistoric Women is a 1968 American science fiction film, one of two which were adapted from the 1962 Soviet SF film Planeta Bur (Planet of Storms) for Roger Corman.
